- What is the migratory quality of Independent ( Independiente ) ?
The migratory quality of Independent is intended for foreign citizens who enter the country in order to carry out investments or exercise their profession as independent workers. The Peruvian government grants the Investor visa to those interested in incorporating a company or participating in the capital of a company in Peru. Applicants will have to provide proof of capital participation for an amount of no less than USD 30,000.00, as well as sign a commitment letter pledging to create at least five (5) jobs for Peruvian citizens within the next two (2) years.
- What is the migratory quality of Immigrant ( Inmigrante )?
The migratory quality of Immigrant is intended for foreign citizens who enter Peru with the intention to reside and carry out their activities, indefinitely. The Peruvian government grants the Immigrant visa to foreign citizens who have legally resided within Peru for at least two (2) years, and who provide proof of an annual income for an amount of no less than PEN 40,000.00 (around USD 11,869.44).
Note: in regard to the residence period of at least two (2) years, applicants cannot leave the country for more than three (3) consecutive months, or six (6) months total, in a period of one year.
- What are the requisites to obtain Peruvian citizenship?
There are two ways of obtaining Peruvian citizenship: by marrying a Peruvian citizen and residing within Peruvian territory for at least two (2) years; or by legally residing within Peruvian territory for the same period. In regard to those who opt for legal residence for a period of two (2) years, they will have to provide proof of an annual income of no less than PEN 39,500.00 (around USD 11,721.06) and pass a written exam.

Unfortunately, the source of income required for the Retiree visa must be permanent. This means that it cannot be subject to variation or market conditions. Consequently, the National Superintendence of Immigration has established that only a retiree pension can be considered as a permanent source of income, and thus will not accept incomes of a different nature.
