What is the migratory quality of Independent ( Independiente ) ?

The migratory category of Investor is intended for foreign citizens who enter the country in order to carry out investments. The Peruvian government grants the Investor visa to those interested in incorporating a company or participating in the capital of a company in Peru. Applicants will have to provide proof of capital participation for an amount of no less than PEN 500,000.00 (USD 150,000.00), as well as sign a commitment letter pledging to create at least five (5) jobs for Peruvian citizens within the next two (2) years.

What is the migratory category of Permanent Immigrant (Permanente)?

The migratory category of Permanent Immigrant is intended for foreign citizens who enter Peru with the intention to reside and carry out their activities, indefinitely. The Peruvian government grants the Immigrant visa to foreign citizens who have legally resided within Peru for at least three (3) years, and who provide proof of an annual income for an amount of no less than PEN 42,000.00 (around USD 12,500.00).

Note: in regard to the residence period of at least two (2) years, applicants cannot leave the country for more than three (3) consecutive months, or six (6) months total, in a period of one year.

What are the requisites to obtain Peruvian citizenship?

There are two ways of obtaining Peruvian citizenship: by marrying a Peruvian citizen and residing within Peruvian territory for at least two (2) years; or by legally residing within Peruvian territory for the same period. In regard to those who opt for legal residence for a period of two (2) years, they will have to provide proof of an annual income of no less than PEN 42,000.00 (around USD 12,500.00) and pass a written exam.

What subjects are covered in the written exam, to obtain Peruvian citizenship?

How long can I stay out of the country if I have a Foreign Card ( Carné de Extranjería )?

If your absence exceeds one hundred and eighty-three (183) consecutive days, you will lose your migratory category, unless you apply for an exemption to stay out of the country for that period of time. 

Note: if you are a Permanent Resident, you can stay up to three hundred and sixty five (365) consecutive days out of the country, without losing your residency.

Can I apply for a Retiree ( Rentista ) visa if I have a source of income, other than a retiree pension, for an amount of no less than USD 1,000?

Unfortunately, the source of income required for the Retiree visa must be permanent. This means that it cannot be subject to variation or market conditions. Consequently, the National Superintendence of Immigration has established that only a retiree or disability pension can be considered as a permanent sources of income, and thus will not accept incomes of a different nature.
